As yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar said: “The still waters of a lake reflect the beauty around it. When the mind is still, the beauty of the Self is seen reflected in it.”

How much control do you have over your mind? The world puts forth many illusions and distractions. B.K.S. Iyengar used the example of a breeze ruffling the surface of a lake distorting the images reflected therein. Every day, your attention (a faculty of the individual mind, or manas) can easily be scattered in one direction and the next. The intellect (buddhi) tries to make sense of things, while the ego (ahamkara) gets attached to various desires. All of this disturbs the calm of the mind (chitta). Spend time stilling your mind so you can see your true Self. A reflective practice – a systematic unraveling from the external body to the self within – is the highest and best use of your time. It can open the flood gates of clarity, creativity, intuition and joy. It can give you a perspective on life that allows you to see the Oneness in all, and thus lead with love and compassion. That doesn’t mean you fade in the background like a wallflower. Instead, you are equipped to boldly show up in the fullness of your light and – as Iyengar put it – experience a “reservoir of peace” and generate “abundant energy for human uplift.”

Until next time, remember – it’s your divine life, live it to the fullest. The power is in your hands!

With Purpose & Power,

Terri
